Let me start by making it a point that I do not spit tobacco on a regular basis. However, I have definitely tried it in the past. I have always wondered that same question, why did I do it? I think I did because of the culture I have grown up in. I have played baseball since I was six years old. Tobacco has and still is directly associated with baseball in many ways. There is dip, dip pouches, and chewing tobacco. I have watched many pro baseball guys who do it. I always thought as a kid it was kind of cool looking. If some of the big leaguers do it, why shouldn't I? Not to mention many coaches, umpires, and other players spit tobacco also. As a high schooler on a summer trip for baseball I finally tried it. It was not nearly as cool as I had envisioned it being. I have only done it a handful of times with some of the guys just to try it. It is crazy how many people spit some form of tobacco in my culture. I guess that is just part of being a baseball boy growing up in the South.
I started it when would make long drives to keep me awake and busy on the road but now I just do it when studying or driving because it just gives me something to do.
