When I'm studying with friends around me, I'll put in headphones to concentrate. I don't do it to be rude, but if they are being loud, I will just so I can get homework done.
Music calms me and sometimes I listen to them just because I am stressed out about something. I can still hear my friends and I will remove them when they speak to me,but sometimes music makes me feel better.
I'm quite the introvert these days, and music blocks out all the talk I don't want to hear. You may say to not hang out with your friends as much. Well, I live with one of my best friends and the other one is around all the time. I don't have that much of a choice at that point.
I love music. I love my friends. If I am trying to study or focus and my friends are distracting me, then that is my go to. Also if one of my friends has her earbuds, that is my automatic reaction

We tend to listen to our headphones around them to block them out, or we just do not want to be bother that day and it's a sign to them.
